Soft Skills & Its Importance in Software Testing

What are the soft skills that testers need to have? This is a question that is often asked and many have tried to answer it.

At EuroSTAR Huddle we will attempt to answer that question from the 21th-24th February next. We have four great and exciting live events coming up that will explore psychology, communication, personal branding and diversity of experience in testing. These sessions will explore how these soft skills can help shape your testing and improve your skills working with others.

How Biases Affect Your Testing

Just like any other part of life, biases can affect your testing and the way you work with others. In this live event, Michael Kutz & João Proença join us to explore this aspect of psychology in software testing. Michael and João will look at what Cognitive Biases are, how to recognise and overcome biases plus you will discover how biases influence our decisions. This is a talk not to be missed if you are curious how your thinking can affect others in testing.

Building Your Personal Brand

Have you thought about what your Personal brand is? Have you thought why is it important? This is something you might not have thought about but personal brand is how you present yourself to the world. You might think, why do I need to have a personal brand. If you are job hunting, applying to speak at events, or want to work with others, a personal brand is essential. Learn how and explore with Raj Subrameyer. Raj will answer audience questions in a relaxed AMA (Ask Me Anything) format. This is a session not to be missed for some practical tips on creating your own brand.

A Guide to Good Communication

How do you communicate well? This is something we all have challenges with and may have not resolved. This talk can help get you to the place where you can communicate openly and fearlessly. Jeffrey Fredrick and Douglas Squirrel join us to share their expertise on improving your conversational and communication skills with an in-depth look at the difficult emotional work you need to do first. Learn to be a better communicator and who doesn’t want that?

What Your Experiences Bring To Your Testing

Have you ever thought about what your background and how it can influence your testing? Many software testers come to the role from a wide variety of experiences and educational backgrounds. In her talk, Amanda Perkins wants to show you how your background is shaping the way you do testing. Looking at the different influences we have had in our life and how this come to the surface in our software testing, Amanda will show how our experiences with tech and outside of tech influence how, what, and why we test the way we do. This talk is one that will get you thinking and make you think long after it has ended.

So there you have it. You might not think soft skills and people skills have a role in software tests but they can play a big part. The EuroSTAR Huddle Deep Dive People Skills event shows that and will be worth attending to uncover these biases and skills that you thought you never had!
