This Day in History: Computer and Tech Events – April 24th

Welcome to the latest edition of On This Day where we examine events that occurred on this day in history relating to computer and technology events. This Day in tech history features the launch of a IBM PC and the first internet domains are registered.

 

1981 – IBM Launch First PCIbm_pc_5150 this day in history

In the United States, IBM introduces its first personal computer, the IBM PC (model 5150). The computer is powered by a 4.77MHz Intel 8088 processor with an optional 8087 math coprocessor. It features 16KB of RAM, and one or two 160 KB 5¼ inch disk-drives as well as five expansion slots. Software includes PC-DOS 1.0 from Microsoft.

 

 

1985 – The Second Internet Domain Is Registered

While Symbolics.com became the first assigned domain on March 15,  bbn.com technically becomes the second .com domain on this day.
