NYPD testing software the predicts crime

Robert Cheetham, C.E.O. of Philadelphia based Azavea states in an interview with Capital magazine what the software that his company has developed can potentially do. The NYPD are currently putting the software on trial in three precincts. Read More here
Comcast makes its testing software available for All
“The licensing agreement allows users to modify and use OCATS without any restrictions. Users can also write applications and tests for OCATS and distribute them freely”
The cable company Comcast has made its testing software Open Cable Automated Test Solution (OCATS or Open CATS) that allows developers and testers to run real-world environments for set-top boxes. The OCATS also contains APIs, making it interoperable with existing testing tools and programming languages. The package will let users use test scenarios like stress testing applications, manipulating set-top configurations and testing the impact of different network protocols. Read More here
The Worst Managed Software Update this Week
“On Tuesday evening, the NYSE began the rollout of a software release in preparation for the 11 July industry test of the upcoming SIP (Securities Information Processor) timestamp requirement..As customers began connecting after 7am on Wednesday, there were communication issues between customer gateways and the trading unit with the new release. It was determined that the NYSE and NYSE MKT customer gateways were not loaded with the proper configuration compatible with the new release.”
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) offers an explanation why the Stock Market in New York closed on Wednesday for over three hours. The issue was the an error in the updating of software of the exxhange. It was only the seventh time in the one hundred and ninety-eight years of the stock exchange. Read More here
Adobe Updates Flash After Hacking Team Leak
“One of the Flash exploits is described by Hacking Team as ‘the most beautiful Flash bug for the last four years”
The security company Trend Micro takes a swing at competitors Hacking Team who were hacked themselves earlier this week. Hacking Team, based in Italy, who provide software to help governments monitor citizens, and often uses vulnerabilities in key software to access people’s machines had spotted the bug in Flash a number of years ago but failed to inform Adobe. The company had 400GB of data stolen from them with much of it ending up on the internet. This resulted in Adobe quickly releasing a bug fix for a bug that they did not know existed and could potentially allow a hacker to access an individuals computer. Read More here
