1995 – Typing Bankruptcy
The Smith Corona Corporation, a large manufacturer of typewriters and personal word processors, files for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code. The company has liabilities of $198.8 million with assets of $207.9 million. The company cites the growing use of personal computers for the reason for bankruptcy.
1997 – Bugs on Mars
The Mars Pathfinder makes a safe landing on the surface of Mars. However issues arose when a bug is found in the processing software. The Pathfinder is forced to reset and recovers to complete the mission. 2008 – Formation of An Orderly Queue
In 2008, people start queueing outside Apple Stores across the world for the upcoming iPhone 3G. The phone would not be released for another six days. The iPhone 3G promised 3G data and introduced the app store for the first time.
The waiting time for the 3G was the second longest for a Apple product launch. The longest wait for a new Apple product was over 250 hours or 9 days for the launch of the iPhone 4S in 2010. You can compare waiting times for the different products here if you wish.
