1962 – The World’s Most Powerful Computer Announced
On this day in Manchester. England, the UK electrical engineering firm Ferranti introduces Atlas, the world’s most powerful computer, at an ceremony at Manchester University. The computer has advances that includes the world’s first paging system and pipelined operations.
2001 – Repercussions over the Goner Worm
In Israel, four teenagers are arrested for writing and disseminating the Goner worm. The worm gained attention worldwide as it caused an estimated $80 million damage to computer systems worldwide. The teenagers were tracked down after the web handles they used was found within the virus code and was matched to IP addresses.
