1896 – Tabulating Machine Company is incorporated
In the United States in Georgetown, Washington, Dr. Herman Hollerith incorporates the Tabulating Machine Company. This company will be the predecessor of International Business Machines (IBM).
1968 – CDC 7600 SuperComputer
What many argue to be the world’s first supercomputer the CDC 7600 Supercomputer by Control Data Corporation (CDC) is announced. The system can complete calculations at a speed of thirty-six megaflops. The super computer is utilised by Government bodies to execute mathematical problems written in FORTRAN including the design of nuclear weapons.
