On This Day in Tech History: January 9th

Welcome to another post on events that occurred on this day in tech history. We look back on some of the most important events that happened on this day with a focus on two major events. A beta version of Windows 7 is released and the first proclaimed World Video Game Championships take place.

 

1983 – World First Video Games ChampionshipsThis day in tech

The first video Game Championships are held in Ottumwa, Iowa, United States. The event is hosted by Twin Galaxies, an organisation founded by Walter Day to record video game world records.  The competition will be won by Ben Gold, age 16, who scores 40,001,150 points on Star gate over the course of 35 hours, 50 minutes.

 

 

 

2009 – Windows 7 ReleasedThis day in tech

Worldwide, Microsoft Corporation releases the beta version of its Windows 7 operating system to 2.5 million users.
