1998 – Internet Explorer is Number 1
On this day in 1998, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer overtakes Netscape Navigator to become the world’s leading web browser for the first time. Internet Explorer would reach up to over 90% market share before declining with the rise of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
2006 – HP enter the Games market
Hewlett-Packard (HP) announces that it will expand into the gaming market with the acquisition of Canadian computer manufacturer VoodooPC for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition means that founders of VoodooPC; Rahul Sood, and brother Ravi join the HP team. Rahul will become HP’s Chief Technology Officer for the newly integrated Global Voodoo Business Unit. The acquisition will be completed in early November. As of 2013 however, HP had ceased building VoodooPC labeled machines.
