1997 – Apple Welcomes Back Steve Jobs
On this day in 1997, Apple Computer announces that it has named Steve Jobs the interim CEO of the company. Steve Jobs had, before this date, re-joined the company as an adviser to CEO Gil Amelio. He did this as Apple acquired his own company (NeXT) for US$400 million. Jobs was hired as CEO comes after Amelio was fired for leading Apple into the worst quarterly losses in the company’s history. As CEO, his first announcement is US$161 million loss for the fourth quarter ending September 26 for the company.
