1985 – NES is launched
On this day in 1985, Nintendo launch their Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in New York with the slogan “Now You’re Playing With Power!”. Retailing at a price of $125 ,the system is an immediate success. The console is launched nationwide the following February. The NES comes with the Robotic Operating Buddy (R.O.B.) and the Zapper light gun. Eighteen games are available at the launch of the game system, two of which come bundled with the system.
1989 – Perl 3.0 is released
Version 3.0 of the Perl programming language is released. Perl was originally developed by Larry Wall in 1987 as a general-purpose Unixscripting language to make report processing easier. In 1994 the company release version 5 of the programming language. The languages unofficial brand image is a a dromedary camel as it was printed on the first Perl user manual that became known as the “Camel Book”. The camel became a unofficial symbol of Perl as well as a general hacker emblem.
