1907 – IBM is granted its first patent
On this day in 1907, International Business Machines (IBM), which will go on to become one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world, applies for its first U.S. patent. (US No. 998,631) The patent will be granted on July 25, 1911.
2010 – Windows 7 for Mobile is released
To compete with Android, Blackberry, and iOS smartphones, Microsoft unveils a new mobile phone operating system, Windows Phone 7 (WP7). WP7 is the first significant update to Microsoft’s mobile operating system in eighteen months. The companies that have already committed to using the software for their phones include Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung.
