1979 – Pacman is released
Midway releases the arcade game Pac-Man to arcades in Japan. The game was developed by Namcoover principally by Toru Iwatani. The original title was pronounced pakku-man, a reference to the phrase used by the Japanese to describe the sound of a mouth widely opened and then closed in succession, “paku-paku taberu.” The game would become The game will become wildly popular and enormously influential in future game development. Exactly one year later the game would be released in North America.
1988 – The First Transfer of Pictures over the internet
The New York Times use a Macintosh and a 9600bps modem to send pictures from a Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets baeball game from Los Angeles, California to New York. It is the first such instance of this happening.
