1998 – ICANN becomes the Recognised Internet Domain Manager
In the United States, the Department of Commerce signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The U.S. leglislature has passesd an amendment to the June Statement of Policy on the Management of Internet Domain Names and Addresses, commonly known simply as the White Paper which recognises ICANN as the administrator of internet name and address system.
