1992 – Sonic The Hedgehog 2
On This day in 1992, Sega releases the platform game Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game for both the Sega Genesis and the Sega Game Gear. Upon its release the game breaks all records for sales of a computer game eventually selling over 6 million copies. It is the second best selling game for the Sega Megadrive console just after its predecessor.
1998 – AOL acquire Netscape
In one of the biggest deals of the dot-com era, America Online (AOL) announce an agreement to acquire the Netscape Communications for $4.2 billion in stock. At the same time AOL also states that, despite the acquisition of the company, they plan to keep Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the default browser for new AOL users. Netscape Navigator internet browser had been the dominant browser through the 1990’s. However by 2002 the use of the browser had almost disappeared.
