1971 -Intel release the Model 4004 Microprocessor
The world’s first commercial single-chip microprocessor, the Intel Model 4004 is launched. The model is capable of around 60,000 Interactions per second (0.06 MIPs), running at a clock rate of 108KHz with a 4-bit. The chip was developed for Busicom, a Japanese calculator manufacturer, as an alternative to traditional circuitry. Along with Intel’s RAM chip, the microprocessor will allow a fourth generation of computers to developed even smaller and faster than previous generations.
2001 – Microsoft launch Xbox
On this day in 2001, Microsoft releases the Xbox video game console at a retail price of $299. The new generation console features a 733MHz Intel processor, an 8GB hard drive, 250MHz NVidia XGP graphics processor, 64MB RAM, four controller ports and an Ethernet port. Games for the system come on dual-layer DVD-ROM discs that can store 9GB of data while the system can play DVD movies too. The system will not be launched in Japan until February and Europe in March.
