The First Ethernet Network and Playstation 3 is launched. All on today’s On This Day from TEST Huddle.
1973 – The First Ethernet Network
The first ethernet network goes into operation. The network consists of a kilometer of coaxial cable operating on a protocol known as Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD). The system was co-invented by David Boggs and Robert Metcalfe.
2006 – Playstation 3 Launched
In 2006, PlayStation releases the PlayStation 3 video game system in Japan. The console features a 3.2GHz PowerPC-base Core Cell Processor, a 550MHz RSX GPU, 256MB RAM, and 256MB VRAM. The company sells 81,639 consoles alone in Japan. One reason so many hardware units are sold and outsell games on the day of the system’s launch is believed to be caused by a number of Chinese businessmen buying them to be resold on eBay.
