The world’s first portable record and Google buy a internet analytics company. All on today’s On This Day from TEST Huddle.

 

1983 – The World’s First Portable ComputerRadio_Shack_TRS-80_Model_100

The first portable computer is announced by Radio Shack. The company introduce the TRS-80 Model 100. The system features a 2.4MHz Intel 80C85 microprocessor with 8 – 24KB RAM, a full-sized 56-key keyboard, an 8 line, 40 column Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and a built-in 300 baud modem. The computer also features a serial interface as well as a cassette tape interface to load and save programs at 1500 baud. The system comes with Microsoft BASIC, a schedule book, a telecommunications package, and a text editor. The TRS-80 proves to be very successful due to its light weight and bundled software package. The portable computer goes on sale with prices starting at $799 for the 8K RAM version to $1,134 for the 24K RAM version.

 

2005 – Google buy an Internet analytics companyurchin

On this day in 2005, Google acquires the California-based Urchin Software Corporation. Urchin software developed a programme called Urchin that analyses internet traffic.  Google will rename the software Google Analytics.
