 1981 – Birth of Mario and Donkey Kong

Today is Donkey Kong and Mario’s birthday. Donkey Kong, the game was released on this day in 1981. The game was the latest effort by Nintendo to break the North American market.

 

 

 

 

 

 1982 – CGI makes its début

Tron

Tron, the first film to use computer generated graphics is released. Amazingly Tron did not win an Oscar for special effects.  The film was disqualified from receiving an Academy Award nomination for special effects, because the Academy felt using computers was “cheating”.

 

 

1997 – Jobs returns to Apple

Apple Computer announces the resignation of Gilbert Amelio as CEO. Amelio was ousted as CEO of Apple by the board of directors after overseeing twelve years of record-low stock prices and crippling financial losses. His severance package is about US$7.5 million. Steve Jobs stepped in as the interim CEO and began a critical restructuring of the company’s product line.
