1979 – Sony Introduces the Walkman
In Japan Sony introduces the very first Walkman. The first mode, named the TPS-L2 is a pocket-sized audio cassette player with earphones and comes in a blue and silver colour. The Walkman is the beginning of portable audio and would remain popular and in use for another twenty years. The Walkman brand is still in use today.
1991 -Duke Nukem
on this day in 1991, the company Apogee Software release the side-scrolling shooter Duke Nukem for MS-DOS. It became one of the most popular PC games and was spurred a series of releases. The game was notable in its time because of its smart level design which allows very fast gameplay. The graphics for the game borrow heavily from other games, such as Turrican and the PC version of Mega Man. The rumour at the time was that Apogee was trying to develop a PC version of the Nintendo game Megaman but did not secure the rights so built Duke Nukem instead.
