On This Day in Technology & Computer History: March 16th

Some of the major technology and computer events that happened on this day in history: the birth of the wiki and the most profane video game ever.

 

1995 – WikiWikiWebwikiwikiweb

In the United States, Ward Cunningham invites a colleague via email to become the first user of what he called the WikiWikiWeb. A first for the internet, a database that can be edited and enlarged by any user. Cunningham created the the database title from “wiki” which is the Hawaiian word for “quick”. Within six years later, the concept will lead to the birth of Wikipedia.

 

 

 

2009 – The Most Profane Video Game EverHouse of the Dead

After a through process the Guinness Book of World Records annoucnes that House of the Dead: Overkill is officially the “most profane game ever.” The video game features the F word 189 times, which accounts for almost three percent of the all of the game’s dialogue.
