On This Day in Technology & Computer History: February 16th

Some of the major technology and computer events that happened on this day in history: IBM launch their new portable computer and the trial of the founders of Pirate Bay starts.

 

1984 – IBM Launch the Portable Computeron this day computer history

International Business Machines (IBM) introduces the IBM Portable Portable Computer, featuring a 4.77MHz Intel 8088 processor, 256KB RAM, a 9 inch amber monitor, a 360KB 5.25 inch drive, and the DOS 2.1 operating system. Price: US$2,795 Weight: 30lbs

 

 

 

2009 – The Trial of Pirate BayThe Pirate Bay

On this day in 2009, the trial of the management of the popular bittorrent tracker The Pirate Bay begins in Stockholm, Sweden.  The defendents are site administrators Fredrik Neij (“TiAMO”), Gottfrid Svartholm(“Anakata”), and Peter Sunde (“Brokep”). A forth to be proscuted is businessman Carl Lundström, who, the proscution argue sold services to the site with breaching copyright law. Altogether the four men face up to two years in prison, €142,000 in fines, and damages payments if convicted. The trial will last for a number of days and on 17th April the Stockholm district court will find the four co-defendants guilty. They are all sentenced to one year in prison and to jointly pay SEK30 million (€3.2 million) in damages.
