1997 – Microsoft purchase HotmailHotmail2

On This day in 1997, Microsoft purchase Hotmail, a free web-based email service. Microsoft buy Hotmail in an attempt to compete with America Online (AOL). THe company pays about $400 million for the service AT the time of the purchase, Hotmail has about 8.5 million users. The entire acquisition will be finalized on January 3, 1998.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2006 – PC-BSD is releasedPC-BSD

On This day in 2006, Version 1.3 PC-BSD operating system is released. PC-BSD is a Unix like operating system based on FreeBSD that features a simplified graphical installation process.
