1982 – Time Machine of the Year
For the first time, Time magazine awards its annual title of The Man of the Year to a non-person. The personal computer recieves the honour for being 1982’s “greatest influence for good or evil.” The article highlights the potential power of the computer in the future with reference made to the ability to connect to other machine and the use of electronic mail. In 1980, 724,000 personal computers were sold in the United States with that number doubled in the following year.
