1999 – Y2K WarningsJosh Koskinen

John Koskinen, chairman of the President’s Council on Year 2000 Conversion, publicly pleads with hackers and programmers to show mercy in regard to any efforts to disable computers during the onset of the expected Y2K bug.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2007 – Google KnolGoogle Knol

On this day in 2007, Google launch the Knol project. Knol is intended to become an open access online encyclopedia. Contributors would earn a ad revenue for their articles. Although the database had grown to 100,000 articles by January 2009, the project will never gain popularity and it will be phased out by April 2012.
