The first software patent in the world, internet access expands and video games could be good for children. All on today’s On This Day from TestHuddle.

 

 

1966 – The first software patent is granted

Argued to be the first software patent in the world is granted, patent No: GB1039141. Granted in the United Kingdom, the patent is for “A Computer Arranged for the Automatic Solution of Linear Programming Problems,”. It was originally filed on May 21, 1962.

 

2000 – According to Nielsen

According to a new Nielsen survey, for the first time more than half of the households in America (approximately 144 million people) have Internet access. As of 2012, internet access is now at 75% in the U.S.

 

 

2006 – Video Games improves Tolerance

A report is published by Business Week that highlights the effects of video games on children undergoing medical procedures, such as surgery. The report states that playing certain “serious games,” such as Free Dive,can potentially increase the length of pain tolerance by those children dramatically.
