Some of the major technology and computer events that happened on this day in history: The end of Commodore and Oracle acquires Sun

 

1995 – End of An era for Commodore

The computer console manufacture announce that the company is selling it’s remain assets to ESCOM, a German-based company. The remaining assests are sold for a sum of about $10 $12.5 million. Soon after the sale of the assests,  ESCOM will fall into receivership. Commodore manufactured one of the most popular personel computers of the 1980’s with the Commodore 64. However the company’s image and poor relationship with developers and dealers meant forced the company into selling it’s assets.

 

 

2009 – Oracle Buys Sun

In the United States, Oracle Corporation enters into an agreement to acquire Sun Microsystems. The stocks are puchased for $9.50 a share in a deal valued at US$7.4 billion. The deal comes quickly after an attempt by International Business Machines (IBM) to purchase Sun fails.
