On This Day in Technology History: February 8th

Welcome to the latest edition of On This Day where we examine events that occurred on this day in technology history. On this day in computer history, Linux Version 2.0 is released and Harvard Mark 1 is patent pending.

 

1945 – Patent on the Automatic Sequence Control CalculatorHarvard_mark 1

In the United States, researchers H.H. Aiken, B.M. Durfee, C.D Lake, and F.E. Hamilton file an application for a patent on the Automatic Sequence Control Calculator. The device would later become known as the Harvard Mark I, the world’s first automatic digital computer.

 

 

 

2004 – New Version of LunixLinux_ Kernal

The newest version of Linux; version 2.0.40 of the operating system is released.
