On This Day in Technology and Computer history: May 12th

Some of the major technology and computer events that happened on this day in history: the z3 computer is announced and the first tweet from space.

 

1941 – The z3 is CompletedThe Zuse Z3

In Germany, engineer Konrad Zuse announces the completion of the Z3. The machine is the first fully automatic, programmable computer. The machine hearlds a step forward for computers and a step-up from predecessors like those developed by Charles Babbage. While earlier machines were based on the decimal system, this machine is capable of performing three to four additions per second, and one multiplication every 3 to 5 seconds.

 

 

2009 – First Tweet From Space

On this day in 2009, the NASA astronaut Michael J. Massimino becomes the first person to ever use Twitter from space. He tweets: “From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!

This would make a increased use of Twitter by astronauts based at the International Space station.
