This Day in Computer and Tech History – April 4th

Welcome to the latest edition of On This Day where we examine events that occurred on this day in history relating to computer and technology events. This day on 4th April, Microsoft introduce Windows 3.1 and Hitachi announce perpendicular recording.

 

1992 – Microsoft Introduce Windows 3.1Windows 3.1

At the Windows World conference held in Chicago, Illinois,  Microsoft Corporation introduces the Windows 3.1 operating system. The Operating System features improved support for CD Audio, MIDI, modems, sound cards, and Super VGA monitors. It also introduces a number of new features including the Control-Alt-Delete command, TrueType fonts and allows users to cut and paste data and objects between applications for the first time.

 

 

 

2005 – Hitachi Announce Perpendicular recordingperpendicular recording

Hitachi announces a new technology to increase the data density of hard drives with perpendicular recording. The company has successfully been able to record 230GB per square inch using the technology.
