This Day in Computer and Tech History – April 18th

Welcome to the latest edition of On This Day where we examine events that occurred on this day in history relating to computer and technology events. This Day in tech history features the Osborne Executive Portable Computer and the Toshiba HD-DVD player.

 

1983 – The Osborne Executive Portable ComputerOsborne Executive Portable Computer

In the United States, Osborne Computer announces The Osborne Executive portable computer. The computer features 128KB RAM, a 7-inch monitor with a detachable keyboard. It contains two 204KB 5.25-inch disk drives, two serial ports, and a parallel port powered by 4MHz Z80A. The system comes bundled with a range of software and retails for $2,495

 

 

2006 – Toshiba HD-DVD Playertoshiba-hd-a1

Toshiba announce the launch of the company’s HD DVD high definition video disc format in the United States. The first release of the HD DVD players featuring the Toshiba HD-A1 and the Toshiba HD-XA1 both sell out within days of their release.
