The Art of Scaffolding

Shelley Lambert

IBM

Shelley began her career writing network management software and upon joining the IBM Runtimes team over a decade ago, has developed and tested many versions Java Virtual Machine software.  As the IBM Runtimes team transitions their code into open-source projects, Shelley leads the effort to open-source the accompanying testing, transforming old, proprietary approaches to more open, agile and consumable pieces.

During the 27th EuroSTAR Conference, Shelley took to the stage to deliver her Next Generation Keynote, “The Art of Scaffolding”. This refers to an approach to agile and open development and speaks of the cultural requirements to enable building something from nothing. Shelley discusses fast issue response, the ability to unblock dependent teams and how to still deliver quality solutions over the span of several open projects.

We are trying to make it easier for everyone to test, if it’s easier more people will test. Let’s create simple useful tools and pull everyone into the testing effort. We need to move fast- releases are frequent.
