1987 – Perl Débuts
A systems administrator at NASA, Larry Wall releases the first version of his scripting language; Practical Extraction And Reporting Language ( Perl 1.000) to the comp.sources.misc USenet group on this day in 1987. Wall built Perl to serve as a general purpose Unix scripting language. The language will become popular for its adaptability and extensive text-processing capabilities.
1997 – HTML 4.0
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the body that advises on internet protocol releases version 4.0 of the HTML standard. This new version adopts many browser-specific element types and attributes. In Addition the new standard sought to phase out Netscape’s visual markup features.
