1953 – The First Mass Produced ComputerIBM_650_at_Texas_A&M

IBM begins production of the first mass produced computer, the 650 series.  The computer featured a memory storage on a rotating magnetic drum and had input/output units that converted alphabetical and other characters to and from a two-digit decimal code.

 

 

 

 

2001 – Birth of BitTorrent

Brian Cohen introduces a beta version BitTorrent to the world via  a post on a public message board. BitTorrent became popular because it allowed users to download large files quickly as they were broken up into pieces and downloaded from multiple sources. BitTorrent did not become largely popular until a search engine was developed for it in 2004 thus spawning sites like The Pirate Bay, Mininova and Isohunt. Today BitTorrent is estimated to account for 7% of all internet traffic.

 

 

2008 – Mircosoft considers its Internet Explorer TV campaign

On this day in 2008, Microsoft pulled a television advert that showed a woman vomiting after looking at her husband’s laptop and seeing that it did not have Internet Explorer 8 on it.
