On This Day in Technology & Computer History: March 9th

Some of the major technology and computer events that happened on this day in history: Another Supercomputer and the iPaq is unveiled.

 

1998 – The Intel ASCI Red Supercomputer

In the United States, the National Nuclear Security Administration and the United States Department of Energy announce the Intel ASCI Red unit, then the world’s fastest supercomputer.  The supercomputer was built to simulate live nuclear weapon detonations after a moratorium on underground weapons testing was extended by the Clinton administration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2001 – Compaq Unveils the iPaqCompaq Ipaq 3670

In the United States, the Compaq Computer company unveils the iPaq H3670 handheld computer. The device features 64MB RAM and the Pocket PC OS.
