On This Day in Technology and Computer History: June 22nd

A guide to the historic technology and computer events that occurred on this day in history. The nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX is released and the computer game Quake is released.

 

1996 – Quake Released

In the United Sates, GT Interactive releases the first person shooter (FPS) Quake for personal computers. The game was developed by Id Software and became a  huge success on its release. The game has a number of novel features including 3D engine, audio effects created by Nine Inch Nails lead singer Trent Reznor and the ability to play a deathmatch between living opponents via the Internet.

 

 

 

2005 – nVidia release the GeForce 7800 GTXNVIDIA's GeForce 7800 GTX

In the United States, NVIDIA releases the GeForce 7800 GTX  graphics card. It is the first graphics processing unit (GPU) in the GeForce 7 Series.
