This Day in Computer and Technology History: March 24th

Welcome to the latest edition of On This Day where we examine events that occurred on this day in computer and technology history. Apple release MacOS X and the announcement of Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

 

2001 – Apple Computer releases the MacOS X Apple macosx

In the United States, Apple announce the release of MacOS X. The release of version 10 is often accepted as the most important release of the software since its original release in 1984. OS X is based on the OpenStep application programming interface (API), developed by NeXT, which Apple acquired in 1996. The software retails at $129.

 

 

2005 – Nintendo DS & Playstation PortableNintendo_DS

Nintendo releases the Nintendo DS video game system in two new colours, Graphite Black and Pure White in Japan. In North America Sony release the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld video game system in North America. The system features a 32MB Memory Stick Duo card, and film Spider-Man 2 on a Universal Media Disc (UMD).
