Microsoft release Windows 1.0 and Mininova reaches three billion downloads. All on today’s On This Day from TEST Huddle.

 

1985 – Microsoft release Windows 1.0Windows1.0

Microsoft releases its Windows 1.01 operating system on five 360KB capacity 5¼-inch floppy disks. The system operates on MS-DOS v5.0.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2007 – Mininova reaches three billion downloadsmininova

The popular bittorrent index Mininova surpasses three billion torrent downloads. Just over six months later in May 2008, Mininova will surpass five billion downloads. The site’s three million daily users download over ten million torrents a day, according to the site’s administrators. In May 2009, Mininova would face a lawsuit from the Dutch copyright enforcement organization BREIN who demanded that Mininova filter torrent files pointing to copyrighted works. In August 2009, the court in Utrecht ruled that Mininova should remove all torrent files pointing to copyrighted material within three months or face damages of up to €5 million.
