Tech Triumphs and Human Trials

Technology is there to help humans. Fitness trackers encourage us to be more active, robot hoovers make cleaning the house easier and self-driving cars are taking many risk factors out of driving. However, many technological advancements also mean humans are becoming deskilled at certain tasks. People are so dependent on satellite navigation that they no longer have very good senses of direction, parking sensors mean drivers have little confidence reversing and digital communication has left many people with poor writing abilities.
The same is true of software testing. Quality engineers now have a very fast way to push products and features to production, which has raised the bar for speed to market — at the expense of product quality. Quality engineers are spending less time thinking about edge cases and usability, focusing more on getting products to production than on whether the product is really ready for it. Green tests rules over test coverage and user acceptance.
Is automation really helping build technology for humans? Are we failing to use the tester instincts that made testing special?
This presentation shares a perspective on the human impact of test automation and how to build automation the right way.
What you will Learn
- Humanisation of test automation
- Automation Paradox
- Right automation strategy
This talk was part of our AutomationSTAR Virtual Day 2024. EuroSTAR Huddle shares talks and articles from our community.
